How Salary Tax is Calculated in Pakistan

Understanding the progressive salary tax slab system for salaried individuals across 2026-27, 2025-26, 2024-25, and 2023-24 tax years.

📐 The Calculation Formula

Pakistan uses a progressive slab system. Your annual income falls into one slab and only the amount above each threshold is taxed at that slab's rate.

Annual Salary = Monthly Salary × 12 Annual Tax = Fixed Amount + (Rate × Excess) Monthly Tax = Annual Tax ÷ 12 Take-Home = Monthly Salary − Monthly Tax

For example, if your annual salary is PKR 1,500,000, it falls in slab 3. Tax = PKR 6,000 + 11% × (1,500,000 − 1,200,000) = PKR 6,000 + 33,000 = PKR 39,000 per year.

For 2026-27, the calculator also includes the revised mid-income slabs from PKR 2,200,001 to PKR 7,000,000 and calculates income above PKR 7,000,000 at PKR 1,424,000 plus 35% of the amount exceeding PKR 7,000,000. The abolished surcharge is not added in the 2026-27 computation.

📋 What This Calculator Does Not Include

This is an estimation tool. The following factors may change your actual tax:

Rebates: Senior citizens, teachers, and certain professionals may be eligible for tax rebates under FBR rules.

Special allowances: Medical, house rent, or conveyance allowances may be treated differently depending on employer structure.

Bonuses & perks: One-time bonuses or benefits in kind may increase your taxable income.

Always verify your final tax liability with your HR department, payslip, or a qualified tax consultant.
